Philosophy of Children’s Ministries
1. Ministering to children is a high priority.
(Mark 10:14)
Community Bible Church believes Scripture teaches that children are important. We believe the teachings of Scripture do not differentiate between adults and children. Therefore, the children’s ministry of Community Bible Church is designed around the biblical truth that God loves and values children just as He loves and values adults.
2. The responsibility for children’s ministry first belongs to the parents.
(Deuteronomy 4:10, 6:6-7, 32:46)
The biblical pattern is for parents to teach their children about God and model what it means to live in relationship with Him. Godly parents will seek to accurately reflect the character and nature of God to their children, creating an environment where the Holy Spirit can bring children into a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ. However, Community Bible Church understands that many parents have not had the training needed to effectively raise their children. In light of this, it is our goal to offer classes and/or seminars which aid parents in this responsibility. Furthermore, we recognize that many children come into the church and the children’s ministry from families which may not reflect godly nurturing homes. We will love and teach these children as our own, while partnering with the larger church family to introduce their parents to Jesus Christ and help equip them to be godly parents.
3. Scripture is the foundation of our content; relevance follows.
(Deuteronomy 32:45-47)
We believe children need to have a strong biblical foundation upon which to build their lives. This foundation is built by helping children become biblically literate: understanding the themes of Scripture, the essential doctrines of the faith, and giving them an accurate view of God, themselves and the world. By teaching our children biblical precepts, we are then able to show them the Christian responsibility they have towards others.
4. Spiritual training of children is the core lifestyle of the home.
(Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
Community Bible Church believes that the core lifestyle of the home is not about knowledge, material things or wealth, but rather about the directing of the child’s heart, soul and strength towards God.
5. Every child is safe and loved at all times.
As a part of the larger Community Bible Church family, the children’s ministry seeks to offer a safe, nurturing environment where children can experience the love of Christ and grow in their knowledge of Him. We do this by carefully evaluating those who work with our children using background and reference checks on any individual who wishes to work in our children’s ministry, and by maintaining a highly relational ministry, where qualified loving workers develop personal relationships with children in small groups.
6. Children serve God as soon as they are ready.
(Proverbs 20:11)
Community Bible Church recognizes children should be active players in God’s kingdom. We not only prepare children to serve in the future; but we also help those who are willing to serve God now by teaching them to minister to others. To accomplish this, we encourage our teachers to alternate certain age-appropriate responsibilities to students giving them an opportunity to experience the pleasure that service to others brings.
7. Children’s workers communicate the Gospel with clarity, urgency and regularity.
(Mark 10:14)
Community Bible Church believes the Gospel should be presented to children in a way that children understand. We offer training sessions to our teachers to equip them to share the Gospel using these simple terms.
a. God is holy (perfect, without sin).
b. We are sinners.
c. There is punishment for sin – death in
hell and separation from God’s love.
d. God loves us.
e. Jesus died on the cross and rose again.
f. His death paid the punishment for us.
g. If we trust in what Jesus did on the cross,
our sins are forgiven.
h. God will give us eternal life.
